Do you have teachers who would benefit from subject enhancement training in Physics?
The Advanced Learning Alliance are delighted to be hosting FREE subject specialism training in Physics, provided through the IOP’s teacher CPD programmes and starting in September 2020. This will be the sixth year that this successful course has been run.
The sessions will benefit:
Non-specialists who are either new to or would like support in teaching Physics
Biology and Chemistry teachers who already teach Physics but who would like additional support
Teachers who don’t yet teach Physics but would like to do so
Teachers returning to teaching after a career break who would now like to teach physics
Each participant will be surveyed before the start of the course to determine their current subject knowledge and as much as possible the programmes will be tailored to their needs.
Sessions usually run every 3 or 4 weeks, 2.30 to 5pm at Dame Alice Owen’s School in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. If we are not able to run face to face sessions, we plan to hold them online instead. Participants can choose to attend KS3/GCSE sessions and/or A-Level sessions. KS3/GCSE sessions will be on Thursday afternoons and A-Level sessions on Tuesday afternoons. Topics are listed in the attached flyer - exact dates will be confirmed nearer the time once the situation is clearer.
Over the last four years all participants have rated the course as very good or excellent, and one commented: "this course gave me lots of ideas to support and challenge students, especially with regards to differentiation and addressing misconceptions".

Would your science department benefit from free in-school support with physics?
Since September 2017 Dame Alice Owen’s School has been an IOP Lead School, leading CPD for a network of partner schools. We are able to support ten partner schools.
Partner schools receive termly visits to provide bespoke in-school support such as a twilight INSET for all science staff on teaching electricity or energy.
If you would like further information about becoming an IOP partner school, please email Simon Poliakoff: firstname.lastname@example.org
