Head of Caretaking (full-time: 37 hrs per week)

Starting January 2018

Salary: H5/21 £20138 FTE

Closing date: Friday 24th November 2018


We require a full-time Head Caretaker to lead the premises and grounds team in this large secondary school on a 35-acre site.


Duties will include:


  • Security of the school's buildings and grounds
  • Operation of the school's heating plant
  • General porterage duties including moving furniture and equipment within the school
  • Day to day maintenance duties which may include minor repairs to furniture & fixtures and decorating tasks
  • Periodic cleaning of designated areas of the school buildings and grounds according to schedule of work
  • Understanding and adhering to Health & Safety legislation, and a willingness to attend training courses where necessary.
  • Investigating faults, making safe and calling out specialist contractors where necessary
  • Occasional parking duties for big events at the school
  • Some weekend and evening work on a rota basis to cover our external lettings
  • Key holding
  • Ability to drive a mini bus (training will be given, if required) and conduct weekly maintenance checks on the School’s minibuses
  • Day to day supervision of the premises and grounds team, helping them to organise and prioritise their daily workloads, including leading team meetings
  • Assist in the management of fire drills and fire safety
  • Snow clearance
  • Ordering materials and equipment to help maintain the school premises to an outstanding
  • Liaising with the Headteacher, external contractors, and staff over premises issues

Upon the satisfactory completion of a probation period, the successful candidate will be offered the opportunity of living in one of the School’s on-site 3 bedroom bungalows with preferential rent.
